8th graders smoking pot?

We went to our 8th grade field trip to Holiday Hill.. A resort with a lot of activites. Theres a lot of woods but on that day, 25 8th graders were caught smoking pot and drinking alchol in the woods. One of them was my friend.. I was shocked at her but I knew that pot wont kill her or anything or am I wrong? I hear a lot of different stories of pot so idk. But still I think its too young to do that. The incident was huge ( locally) My question is, do you think it is too young for 8th graders to smoke pot?
