Making friends online?

Before anyone jumps on me, I do have a social life, BUT, I've moved to a new town, and work as a freelance music journalist so Don't really meet anyone in my job (I work alone or in a 2 person team)... I don't know many people here, and can't seem to find any local clubs and stuff, so... Any ideas on how to make friends, maybe online but locally, and not on a dating site.
